Maheema Dutta: Preserving and Promoting Mithila Painting

Maheema Dutta is very young , creative, versatile and promising name in the field of Mithila Painting. She is one among the tiny group of youngsters who have dedicated their time and effort for preserving and promoting the culture and tradition.

Born and bought up in Small Town Kanchanrup Municipality in Nepal, Maheema started Mithila Painting as a hobby during school days later it become her passion. She accumulated all the information, did her own research, learned about every details on her own and mastered the Art of Mithila Painting . Awarded with Ceetle hero, Maheema has accomplished numerous painting projects successfully so far.

Maheema is currently pursuing her studies in business in Kathmandu. Still she manages her time for promoting and preserving Mithila Painting through various means. Maheema is also engaged in many social activities .

Maheema has very deep connection with her culture and tradition. Hence, she has decided to dedicate her time and effort to preserve and promote Mithila Painting as she strongly believes that culture and tradition is an integral part of our identity.

Inspired by the culture in which she grew Maheema has very good support from her family. Her family is her energy and motivation which keeps her going.

Most of the youngsters are struggling so hard to meet the standard of so called success set by appraisal of society that they have forgotten what do they actually want? Success or Satisfaction? They are living for numbers not for values. Still there are some who stands out of the crowd for whom number doesn’t suppress the values and have clear vision towards life.  Maheema is one among the second category. Maheema is an ideal example for the youngsters of today’s generation.

Mithila painting, having its origins in the Mithila region of Nepal and India, is a traditional folk art made on canvas, cloth or cow dung washed hand paper. Commonly depicted subjects in Mithila paintings are Ardhanarishvara , Historical characters (Ram, Sita, etc), Marriages, Festivals, Sun and Moon and many more.
